Full Scholarships Available for Students Interested
in Pursuing a High Tech Career

Interested in a career in a high tech field?  What about the possibility of making over $30,000 a year after two years or less of college?  Then Calhoun’s Center for Manufacturing Innovation (CMI) programs in Machine Tool Technology or Industrial Maintenance is what you’re looking for.

The CMI program is seeking high school students graduating this spring, current college students with undeclared majors or persons desiring to make a career change.  Full-scholarships are available for qualified applicants.  According to Dr. Mary Yarbrough, dean for Technologies and Workforce Education at Calhoun, CMI scholarships are to be used toward tuition and fees for new applicants to either the college’s Machine Tool Technology or Industrial Maintenance program.  In addition, books and tools will be provided for each student in the program, and those successfully completing the program will retain these materials.

Qualifications for the CMI scholarships are as follows:

  • Applicant must hold a high school diploma (or complete high school by spring 2007) or a GED;
  • Applicant must declare and pursue a major in Machine Tool Technology (MTT) or Industrial Maintenance (IND) at Calhoun;
  • Student must take at least 12 semester hours each semester in MTT or Industrial Maintenance or related technical courses; and
  • Student must have at least a 2.5 overall high school GPA based on a 4.00 scale.

Interested persons should submit an application no later than Monday, April 30, 2007.  Application materials may be found on the CMI website or by calling 256/306-2612.  For more information, contact Dr. Mary Yarbrough at 256/306-2976 or email at mmy@calhoun.edu.

The CMI program is funded by a grant awarded to Calhoun under President Bush’s High Growth Job Training Initiative, as implemented by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration.
