OUR SURROUNDING COMMUNITY

Tennessee River bridgeThe home of Calhoun Community College, Decatur is located on the banks of the Tennessee River in north Alabama, just minutes from Huntsville, home of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center and U.S. Space Camp. With a population of approximately 50,000, Decatur is perfectly sized, combining a high quality of life and a comfortable small town atmosphere with many of the amenities found in larger cities. Decatur, as one of the region's oldest cities, is rich in heritage. Yet it is also a city looking to the future, exploring new opportunities and emerging as a significant center for industry, trade, commerce, finance, tourism, and transportation.

One of the fastest growing communities in the United States, the Decatur/Huntsville area offers excellent cultural and recreational opportunities, a comfortable climate, an impressive educational system, and an economical cost of living. In addition to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, local attractions include Point Mallard Park, a 750-acre water park which is famous for having the nation's first "wave pool," and Cook's Natural Science Museum in Decatur, and Constitution Hall Village and U.S. Space Camp in Huntsville.  Residents of the area also have the unique advantage of enjoying the sights and sounds of attractions in Birmingham, Alabama, and Nashville, Tennessee, both located less than a two hour drive from Decatur.
